Why Do I Dream Every Night?

dream every night

“I dream every night, is it normal?” You may ask yourself this question, as most people do. We spend almost one-third of our lives sleeping, and we dream all through that time. While numerous theories exist to explain why we dream, none yet knows for sure what is their purpose or meaning. Some researchers argue dreams have symbolic significance, while others assume they are connected to waking reality. What scientists do know is that everybody dreams every time they sleep. So, the question that you should ask is actually not “why do I dream every night” but instead, “why do I remember my dreams every night?”

To answer your question, perhaps you remember your dreams more than others because of these listed reasons below:

1. You are more interested in dreams than others.

According to several researchers, many of us forget most of our dreams because we sleep right through them, with such little emphasis on dream recall. Sleeping, as non-mind-intensive actions like driving along an empty road, can be an absent-minded action in which you may need to pay special attention to recall your dreams. It is stated that interest and motivation are essential factors to recall your dreams since strong recallers find dreams important. As a result, if low recallers want to improve themselves, they should write and read their dreams regularly. You may find an answer to your question “why do I dream every night and remember them“,  if you do the reverse.

2. You are more articulate than others

Dreams are usually out of the ordinary, having little resemblance to our waking lives. Dreams may include a plethora of multi-layered symbolism and analogies, making them harder to describe in thoughts and words. This verbalization or internalization of a personal dream might play an important role in dream memory. The capacity to develop more structured ideas could be one of the reasons to explain your question, “why do I dream so much every night? ”.

3. You have deeper REM sleep

REM sleep is the privileged place for the expression of dreams. Not only are there more dreams in this part of the night, but these are also dreams that the person will remember more when they wake up. During this last phase of a sleep cycle, our brains are very active, our eyes are constantly moving in all directions, and the rest of our body, on the other hand, is “paralyzed” since our brain waves work as if they are awake in this process, but the body does not have muscle movement. The onset and length of REM sleep varies from person to person. It usually starts about 90 minutes after falling asleep. REM sleep is repeated 4 or 5 times in a certain cycle. So if you ask “why do I have dreams every night”, it’s probably because you have a REM sleep more repeatedly than others.
