Why Do My Dreams Feel So Real Lately?

In some of our dreams, the emotions and the events we experience feel so real that we are confused when we wake up. We cannot figure out whether it was real or not. We laugh so genuinely and feel so intensely in our dreams that we still feel the warmness of the smile when we wake up. If somebody or something hurts us in our dreams, sometimes we wake up to feel the same intense feeling of being heartbroken or physically hurt in reality. When our dreams are this intense, it is more than possible to think of them as real.

Why do some dreams feel so real?

Many people ask, “why do my dreams feel so real lately?” Some of the dreams we have felt intensely real because we believe in the situations or feelings as they happen in our dreams. We cannot easily understand that we are in a dream as we are dreaming. So, when we are having a great moment in a dream, we believe it, even if it would be perceived as impossible in reality.

How do we believe in our dreams?

When we have a dream, the parts of our brain that specialize in visualizing are more active than the other parts. So, we easily visualize the concepts in our subconscious and as we see those concepts visually in our dreams, it is easy for us to believe. The parts of our brain that connect to judgment are less active when we are dreaming. That is why it is easy for us to just believe in what we see rather than judge the credibility of the occurring events or feelings.

When you are emotionally drawn to a certain situation or a person in your life, you invest your whole mental energy into it. You constantly think about that one person or situation during the day. Your brain does not know how to stop thinking about that one thing. When you put this much mental energy into something, it is almost inevitable to welcome them into your dreams. For instance, let us say that you are heartbroken because you are having trouble with your boyfriend. You fight and cannot seem to work things out but you want to fix things. You want to fix things so much but you also know that with only your effort it is not possible. Still, knowing this will not keep you from spending all your energy on the thought of this. So, in your dream, you see that he is putting in some effort, you talk and work things out. Your energy fuels this dream and you feel the smile on your face. You may even wake up with a smile on your face. That’s because you put so much power into this dream with your energy. So, it felt more than real. You wake up and you need some time to comprehend that it was not real. Dreams are magical and they do that to a person when they are fueled with enough strength.
